Sarah Mechbal
I am a postdoctoral researcher at DESY Zeuthen, as part of the IceCube collaboration. My main task is the testing and development of the mDOM detector for the IceCube Upgrade. I am also part of the multi-messenger astronomy group, where I study Active Galactic Nuclei using machine learning techniques.
I hold a PhD in physics from the University of California, Santa Cruz, having graduated in June 2020. I am interested in all areas of experimental astroparticle physics. My dissertation is on the AESOP-Lite mission, a balloon-borne cosmic rays experiment designed to study the solar modulation of electron and positron. My work on the project has touched upon a wide range of topics, from particle detection instrumentation, track reconstruction algorithms, to MC simulation, data analysis, and the world of scientific ballooning.
